Martinique and its wild cocoa trees

Plantations where nature decides
Yes you are not dreaming… We have discovered our talents as riders! It is otherwise impossible to access the cocoa plantations which stretch steeply along the side of the cliffs.
Here, nature decides where the cocoa trees are planted. No line plantations as elsewhere. The work there is therefore harder for the farmers but more respectful of our ecosystem.
An environmentally sustainable approach
Local farmers are inspired by tropical forests to create their plantations. This is called agroforestry. They associate trees and shrubs with their cocoa trees.
But why?
This agricultural practice restores soil fertility, guarantees the quantity and quality of water but above all increases biodiversity.
